The category chosen was "Film from a wine producing country not UK or US". Belle Epoque is a wonderful Spanish film set during the Spanish Civil war. It follows a deserter from the war who takes refuge in an old house in the country which is inhabited by and old artist who is being visited by his four beautiful daughters. They each take turns in seducing him before he finally falls for the youngest daughter played by a 19 year old Penelope Cruz.

To accompany the film and the Spanish theme we had a couple of Rioja wines, along with typically Spanish food including patatas bravas, Chorizo, thin sliced aged Iberian ham, olives and tortilla.

Marking was brutal! The food received generally good marks, however, the introduction and film were not so well received. Main criticism was the introduction went on too long about the Spanish civil war and the film left some confused! Anyhow, it was a good turn out including a guest appearance from our (non voting) c*untry member.
