Only 6 of us were available for Simon's turn at hosting the film club. With limited numbers there was an abundance of food freshly prepared and waiting for us as we arrived. Giant sasuage rolls, pesto, chicken liver pate and bread - all homemade. Corned beef (out of the tin and finely sliced), mustard, piccalilli and other sauces (not homemade) helped Simon earn a perfect score for food. There were two italian wines to compare. There was no link for various reasons between the wine, food and film - but that minor negative was overlooked because we were all enjoying the food!

Simon chose bio-pic as his preferred category. The film was based on a real-life case in 1925. Known as the Scopes Monkey Trial  after a Tennessee science teacher is accused of the crime of teaching Darwin's theory of evolution to his studnets. Two great lawyers, played by Spencer Tracey and Fredric March argue the case for, and against,. The actual trial was held in the middle of a heatwave during the long hot Tennessee summer. The film shows many scenes where the actors are shown very obviously sweaty! While film was based on a real event, could the film be regarded as a bio-pic?? Overall - despite a few minor flaws (Possibly not a bio-pic?, no link to the wine chosen, and the film was a bit long) the marking was favouable with Simon gaining 71% for the film. The overall score was 75%.
