Larry Flynt is a self confessed perv who starts out managing a strip club and eventually manages to set up and publish Hustler magazine. Hustler magazine was often viewed as the most graphic pornographic magazine and as such upset many people, especially christian anti-pornographic activistis. The film recounts his struggle to make an honest living publishing his porn magazine and how it changes into a battle to protect the freedom of speech for all people. Larry Flynt explains "murder is illegal, but if you take a picture of it, you may get your name in a magazine or maybe win a Pulitzer Prize. However, sex is legal, but if you take a picture of that act, you can go to jail." And he does go to jail a number of times. He is also shot - causing him to spend the later part of his life in a gold plated wheel chair.
The real Larry Flynt gets a cameo - he plays Judge Morrissey who gives Larry Flynt a 9 month sentence for contempt of court for wearing an American flag as an adult diaper. Both Edward Norton, as the long suffering lawyer and Courtney Love, as Larry's wife Althea, won several awards in the best supporting actor/actress category.
Jonathan managed to score an excellent 95% in the evening category most likely in recognition of the effort he put in to the fish taco nibbles! He also included homemade apple wine?? and magnums at the interval. Unfortunately there were only 4 other club members present for the evening. Most of the rest were having free food and drink a the carnival corporate night.
