Dan was about to depart for an extended stay in France and thus decided to provide a French connection by choosing two excellent Bordeaux, along with cheeses and pate. The food was wonderful but there was no link to the film - he could have showed French Connection since that has Gene Hackman in it as well! The two wines were an intresting choice. The £26 top shelf in Waitrose wine was compared with one half the price. The half price one was generally agreed to be more likeable - I think it just goes to show we are not very sophisticated when it comes to wine tasting!

Runaway Jury is a 2003 American legal thriller film directed by Gary Fleder and starring John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, and Rachel Weisz. An adaptation of John Grisham's 1996 novel The Runaway Jury, the film pits lawyer Wendell Rohr IHoffman) against shady jury consultant Rankin Fitch (Hackman), who uses illegal means to stack the jury with people sympathetic to the defense. Despite stacking the Jury in his favor Rankin Fitch finds that one of the Juror's (Cusack) is aiming to control the jury and swing the vote to the highest bidder. This film generated a lot of discussion around around the American legal system since we have a number of experts in the club - Dan and Jimbo - and then JT and Mike who have had to defend themselves against the odd speeding ticket. Despite being a court room based drama - which usually means a boring plot - this had plenty of twists and turns. It also had Rachel Weisz to look at which probably helped the score along.
