A full house for club - Ian selected Political category from the scrote to keep us entertained. Wag the Dog is dark political comedy starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro who are trying to spin a story about a fictional war in Albania to distract the American public from the real story about the President's sex scandal with a much younger woman. It was released in 1998 a month before news of Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky broke. Fact imitates fiction? It was too tempting for the press not to make comparisons with the film and events happening in real life. The Clinton administration did bomb a chemical factory in Sudan just after news was released about his affair. Clinton also initaited a bombing campaign against Iraq just as his impeachment trial got underway.

The film had a few more far fetched ideas to distract the public including a made up squadron "303", a B3 bomber and a forgotten soldier Schumann (Woody Harrelson) rescued from behind enemy lines. The forgotten soldier turns out to be a criminally insane Army convict unsuitable to be a hero and is conveniently killed. Ultimately the film dragged on a bit and, of course, became more and more unbeliveable - but is was a comedy after all.

At 55% the film did not score very well, however, an excellent introduction (96%), good food and a round of secret santa where JT recieved the gift of a Barbie head for his dressing table. meant that the overall score was a respectable 67%.
